A Glance at Guangdong University of Business Studies Graduation Exhibition 2013

From 20 May to 10 June, Graduation Exhibition 2013 organized by School of Art, Guangdong University of Business Studies is open at laboratory building in northern campus of the university. There are over 300 pieces of graduation works on the theme of "So Youth" delivering the happiness and bitter, enthusiasm and dream of those future designers.

   Undergraduates from departments of advertising, design and animation put their excellent graduation designs on display, attracting not only students and teaching staff but also related companies to scout talented designers.

   On the exhibition, there are 33 pieces of works (some are finished in groups) made by 53 students, who major in Toy & Game Design, including wooden toys, plush, plastic toys, ceramic atrworks, home accessories, strollers & ride-ons, and game-related items. To prepare for the graduation exhibition, quite a few students have worked on it for half a year. Judged by those exhibits, their  manipulative skills have been promoted to a new level. Moreover, plenty of them are outcome of cooperation with enterprises and social institutions, which thanks to the university that keeps adjusting courses to meet social needs and enhance students' commercial awareness.

   Huang Yuan, one of the students, began to get in touch with autistic children in her sophomore year. "This group of kids were desperately in need of care but what they have, especially specialty toys for them, are obviously inadequate." She told TOY INDUSTRY. In her junior year, she started to work with Guangzhou Little Angel Rehabilitation Training Center and Guangzhou Qifei Educational & Teaching Tools Co., Ltd. to develop five sets special toys for autistic children, some of which have been put into use and received pretty good feedbacks.

   "Seven Office Cranks" from "Greatness Co., Ltd." are very eye-catchy. They are Oversleeping Dino, Forgetful Duck, Sweatful Tiger, Paralyzed Whale, Absent-minded Bird Careless Cat, and Doomed Chick. Still studying at college though, the designer of "Seven Office Cranks" recreated typical characters in office through seven hilarious animal plush, arousing some feelings in audience that do with their daily life. Actually, this plush range has made its debut at Guangzhou International and Hobby Fair this April and attracted fans.

   Severe foreign trade conditions force OEM toy manufacturers to put more attention to independent R & D, generating more demand for toy designers. This is obvious good news for students majoring in Toy & Game Design.

   With nearly seven million students graduating from colleges, this year is titled as "the hardest job hunting year in history" by mass media. When countless students are worried about how to nail the first job, quite a few from school of art, Guangdong University of Business Studies have got offers in hand. According to Mr. Lin, the vice secretary of the school, 100% students majored in Toy & Game Design have got their job right after graduation for the past six years; and excellent graduates this year have been signed by large toy and game companies such as Mattel and Alpha Animation and Culture.
